Jim became an immersed believer at the age of 35. He has been an elder for several years at VCC, as well as leading an adult LIFE Group and being involved in our Outdoor Fellowship Ministry. Two of Jim’s favorite Scriptures are Ephesians 2:8-9, “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast,” and 1 John 3:1, “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.” He loves VCC because it has a Bible-believing/teaching fellowship. He has lived in Eastern Idaho and Eastern Colorado. He has been married to his wife, Joan, since 1974 and has 4 adult children – Sharon, Kimberly, Amanda and Michael; and 5 grandchildren – Mackenzie, Jacob, Abigail, Marcus and Isaac.
My name is Ricky Pickering, and I am honored to be a deacon at Vernal Christian Church. I was born in Lodi, California, but I never really lived there. My dad has always worked over-seas and just after my youngest brother was born he moved us to Ecuador. We stayed there about four years and then we moved to Columbia and stayed there about four years as well. When my parents decided it was time to come back to the states they didn’t want to live in California, so we moved to Vernal, Utah, and have pretty much been here ever since. I really do love Vernal! I have two amazing brothers, Robert and Stephen, and an amazing sister, Amber, whom I adore. They all live in Vernal as well. I met my wonderful wife, Sharlee, in Vernal. We have four beautiful children – Stephen, Jackson, Jacob and one of which that has yet to be named because he/she hasn’t been born yet. My dad is still working over-seas, and both he and my mother currently live in Saudi Arabia. We get to see them a few times a year, but all of us really long for the day they move back.
I didn’t grow up with a religious background. I can actually count on one hand the amount of times I attended church prior to coming to VCC. I came to know and love Jesus in 2012, prior to that my life was steeped in sin and selfishness. I thought the world revolved around me and ultimately it cost me my marriage. I was separated and divorced from Sharlee for about five years. As I came to know the Lord, He began to show me the true condition of my heart. Through lots of pain, lots of tears and a lot of love from family and friends at VCC, he began to work and soften my heart. I can honestly say that the Creator of the universe worked all things to restore my marriage and bring me into a loving relationship with Him that has changed everything. I am deeply in love with Jesus and I would love the opportunity to help you in any way I can to come to know and love Him. I also love the Bible and read and study it daily. I would also love the opportunity to help you get familiar with and grow to love the Bible as well. I feel at home at VCC and would love for you to feel the same way!
Drex has been a Christian for over 15 years and is actively involved in our Jail Ministry, Outdoor Fellowship and Men’s Ministries, as well as being a Bible study leader. He is here at VCC because it is a Bible-believing church! Outside of loving the entire book of John, Drex’s favorite Scripture is 1 Cor 1:18, “Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.” His interests include camping, hunting – really anything outdoors! Drex has lived in Vernal his entire life. He has been married to his wife, Sammi, for over 25 years and they have three children – Kassidi, Dakota and MaKenzi.
I joined Vernal Christian Church in March of 2015. I was raised on a ranch in Northwest Colorado and moved to Vernal in 1994. I enjoy spending time with my wife Johnna, Kids and Grandkids, Camping, Hunting, and Riding Motor cycles. Johnna and I have been married since July 1995. I have two daughters Samantha and Nicole. I have two grandsons Jax and Haze with another grandson on the way. My favorite scriptures are: John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” Also, Psalm 71: 15-16 “My mouth will tell of your righteous deeds, of your saving acts all day long – though I know not how to relate them all. I will come to proclaim your mighty acts, Sovereign Lord; I will proclaim your righteous deeds, yours alone.” AND from Matthew 10:32 “Everyone who acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven.”
