Missions Awareness Ministry
“…You will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and Judea, and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” (Acts 1:8)
Our vision is to equip VCC members to become informed responsible partners in God’s work first in Vernal, then the Western United States and North America and throughout the world. (Our version of Acts 1:8)
VCC prayerfully and financially supports 14 mission stations or missionaries in their service of evangelism, discipleship and church planting through monthly communication and financial commitment. Additionally, another half dozen efforts, including short-term mission support by VCC members, have been supported on a one-time project basis during the past year.
The Mission Awareness Ministry Team is a group comprised of liaisons and advocates of the 14 missions supported by VCC and other interested individuals. Their meetings are the first Tuesday of each month at 7:00 pm in the VCC Conference Room. Anyone interested in missions is invited to attend. Their responsibilities include those that link the congregation with the various mission works.
They meet monthly to give updates on mission efforts, praises and prayer requests, and to pray over and disburse monthly missions funds. In addition, they schedule and present regular “Moment for Missions” features in the Sunday worship service. The goal is for each mission work to be featured once during the year for the edification of the congregation and the promotion of that work.
A major annual event is the Missions Fair held in October, during which field workers and forwarding agents from several of our mission works come in for a weekend of update and inspiration. This Fair kicks off the pledge drive for our annual Missions Faith Promise Giving.
The annual missions budget of Vernal Christian Church is determined by the Faith Promise Commitments of its members. Members make these pledges in November following a time of prayerful consideration and form the basis for an annual Missions budget.
In addition, for every month that contains a fifth Sunday (generally 4 each year), the Missions Awareness team will set a goal amount and mission projects that will be funded from that offering. (VCC operates its general fund on a 48-week budget, so that all giving received on each fifth Sunday can go to missions.) In recent years Missions Giving has exceeded of 50% of the congregation’s total giving.
For it’s strong emphasis in Missions support, giving, going and sending, VCC was recognized by the International Conference on Missions (ICOM) as the Radical Mission Church for congregations under 200 in attendance. VCC is represented annually at ICOM’s event by local mission team members.
